During the summer, you’re probably embracing the sun’s warmth on your face. Achieving that sun-kissed look can bring youthful color to your face, but too much sun may result in long-term consequences for your skin. Not to worry! With a “Zip and a Zap” you could be on your way to healthier, smoother, tighter more uniform color skin. Laser resurfacing is a natural, progressive way to bring back your youth, and perhaps give you back that special glow that will make all your girlfriends jealous!

Lasers for treating the skin have been around now for nearly two decades. In the “old” days, high powered, aggressive lasers produced amazing results, but there were lots of complications—scarring and hypo-pigmentation among them—and most patients who had those procedures still recall the pain of the healing.

BUT THAT HAS ALL CHANGED!

Modern, fractional lasers allow us to “dial in” the level of peel that we want to attain, and only treat a small portion of the skin–aerating it with microscopic “pin holes” and motivating your body fill in with collagen (liquid gold). I liken this to aerating your lawn because only a portion of the skin is treated, it is not painful, and healing time is measured in hours or days, not in weeks or months.

At W Cosmetic Surgery, we use the Lutronic ECO2 laser system, which is extremely versatile. It has several interchangeable tips that allow us to personalize treatment for each patient. This laser creates “zones” of heat that injure the skin, resulting in collagen production and skin tightening. A treatment with a fractional laser can also target pigment problems, actinic damage, while improving wrinkles and fine lines, acne and surgical scars, and overall textural irregularities. Beyond the face, the ECO2 can be used to treat the neck, chest, hands, back.

While not as fast as what we can achieve with an aggressive laser, many of our patients who have busy lifestyles and need minimal recovery time (and for no one to know that they are undergoing treatment) find that a series of these in-office laser treatments produce dramatic and incrementally positive results. It’s slower improvement vs. recovering for four weeks from an aggressive laser, but is also more natural.
