When Filler Injections Go Wrong—We Can Help.

While fillers are a popular and effective facial rejuvenation treatment, sometimes the results don’t turn out as expected. Overfilled lips, lumpy under-eye areas, or uneven cheeks could cause you to feel self-conscious about your look. Fortunately, filler correction offers a solution. At W Cosmetic Surgery™ in Philadelphia, Dr. Allan Wulc specializes in correcting and reversing unsatisfactory filler results, helping patients regain confidence and achieve a natural, beautiful look.

What is Filler Correction?

Filler correction involves dissolving unwanted dermal fillers, particularly those made of hyaluronic acid (HA) such as Juvéderm® and Restylane®, using an enzyme called hyaluronidase. This treatment breaks down the HA filler, allowing it to be absorbed by the body and effectively reversing the results of the previous injections. Dr. Wulc customizes each filler correction based on the patient’s concerns and goals, ensuring the best possible outcome for a smoother, more natural appearance.  We have the ability to utilize Ultrasound to locate hyaluronic acid deposits and can break these up under direct view when necessary using Ultrasound technology. In some cases, non-HA fillers like Radiesse and Sculptra can be treated with other methods, although these fillers generally require more time for the body to absorb.

Who is a Candidate for Filler Correction?

If you’ve received filler injections in areas like the lips, cheeks, under-eye region, or chin and are unhappy with the results, you may be a candidate for filler correction. This procedure is ideal for patients experiencing issues such as lumps, asymmetry, or an unnatural appearance. Candidates should be in good overall health and have realistic expectations. If you’re unhappy with your results, don’t wait for the filler to wear off—filler correction offers a faster solution.

What to Expect During a Filler Correction Consultation

During your consultation at W Cosmetic Surgery™, Dr. Wulc will evaluate the areas where you’ve received fillers and listen to your concerns. He’ll discuss your goals for correction and develop a personalized treatment plan to dissolve the unwanted filler. If needed, Dr. Wulc may suggest re-injection after the correction process and complementary treatments like skin rejuvenation or BOTOX® to enhance your final look. You are free to ask questions, so you feel entirely confident about your treatment plan.

Filler Correction: How it Works

Filler correction is a straightforward and effective procedure. Dr. Wulc injects hyaluronidase into the area with the unwanted filler using a fine needle. This enzyme immediately begins breaking down the filler, and results can often be seen within minutes. The hyaluronidase dissolves the filler over the next few days, leaving you with a more balanced, natural appearance.
For non-HA fillers, such as Radiesse and Sculptra, steroid injections may help diminish the effects, though these fillers generally need to be absorbed by the body over time.

Recovery from Filler Correction

Filler correction is a minimally invasive procedure with little to no downtime. Most patients experience mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection site, but these effects usually resolve quickly. You can return to your regular activities immediately after treatment, making filler correction convenient for those who need quick results.
