What is Renuvion® Skin Tightening?

Renuvion® may be one of the most exciting new advances in skin tightening to occur in the last 20 years. Our practice is the first in the Philadelphia area to employ Renuvion® technology. Renuvion®, formerly known as J plasma, is a medical device that combines helium plasma and a proprietary radiofrequency (RF) energy.

W Cosmetic Surgery: The First in Philadelphia

We use Renuvion® in a variety of procedures to stimulate tissue contraction by carefully heating connective tissues directly beneath the skin. It precisely, reliably and safely produces contraction changes in the skin and in many cases allows us to avoid or bypass the need for a larger incisional face lift procedure.

Who is a Good Candidate for Renuvion®?

It is ideal for patients who aren’t interested in or eligible for excisional surgery. Doctors use Renuvion® to provide dramatic results with lower inherent risks and recovery time than more invasive surgery.

What Parts of the Body Can Renuvion® Treat?

The most commonly treated areas for Renuvion® include:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Chest
  • Arms
  • Back
  • Abdomen
  • Thighs

What Can I Expect During A Renuvion® Procedure?

During a Renuvion® treatment, a thin wand is inserted at small entry points at the target area (similar to liposuction) and the energy is applied underneath the skin.

We can perform this procedure with local anesthesia and with a small amount of sedation, or you may prefer to have this done asleep in an ambulatory surgery center setting.

What Will my Recovery Look Like?

The downtime is approximately one week. You may be black and blue for that time. Pain is easily controlled with nonnarcotic medications and we expect you to be back to work in approximately a week.

We like you to wear a garment postoperatively continuously in the first week to allow the skin to contract smoothly, and then we make recommendations for nighttime use for a period of time-based on your early response.

Are There Any Risks Associated with Renuvion® Skin Tightening?

Risks may include: unintended burns (deep or superficial), scars, temporary or permanent nerve injury, pain, discomfort, gas buildup resulting in temporary and transient crepitus or pain, infection, hematoma, seroma; asymmetry and/or unacceptable cosmetic result. There may be additional risks associated with the use of other devices along with Renuvion and there may be an increased risk for patients who have undergone prior surgical or aesthetic procedures in the treatment area. As with any procedure, individual results may vary.

The Renuvion system is intended to be used for the delivery of radiofrequency energy and/or a helium gas plasma for electrosurgical cutting, coagulation, and ablation of soft tissue during open surgical procedures. The system is cleared for general use and not for any specific indication or anatomical location.
