Microneedling is making big news. In addition to all of the studies that show it actually builds collagen, people are seeing a difference in their skin and talking about it.
In the last few months, my patients say their lip lines are markedly improved, the crinkles around their eyes are less noticeable, and their skin feels tighter and renewed.
But it still generates the most questions that come into the practice….”what does the Dermapen do?”
The short answer is that the Dermapen needles create areas for collagen to rebuild. We roll the pen over the area which causes multiple micro – “wounds” or “channels” in the lower level of your skin, called the dermis, where collagen and elastin are found. This dermal injury triggers the release of growth factors that stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin, thus plumping and tightening the skin.
After years of using a derma roller, we introduced Dermapen micro needling at W Cosmetic Surgery in January. You may have even seen my video:
The long answer is that this cutting edge treatment offers tons of benefits for every skin type, including darker skin. It is especially effective for some hard-to treat conditions, such as scars, acne scars, and skin pigmentation. With minimal downtime, it is great for improving the texture of skin, fine lines, wrinkles, pore size, and skin laxity. It is said to mimic a laser but without the heat. In fact, we have seen results that rival the effects of Fractional Laser Therapy and laser resurfacing. The pen can be used on all areas of the body and there’s no downtime.
And what is even more fabulous is that we can infuse Dr. Wulc’s specially designed anti- aging and therapeutic serums into these “channels” causing better penetration. While it takes 3-6 months for that collagen to form, patients notice an instant “glow” and improved skin texture.
We believe in this technology so much that we just added a device called Dermafrac ™. Dermafrac micro-channeling combines calibrated needle penetration and infusion of the latest topical solutions in pain-free, no downtime treatments. We are using the system now, even doing in office trials to see how it works best. We look forward to offering appointments soon.
