It looks like Spring is finally here to stay! As I look through the spring fashions in my favorite magazines, it looks like the theme is Vibrance! So why not apply that to our skin?

As the weather changes, I suggest everyone start with a complimentary Visia skin analysis here in our office. It will give us a very special look at what’s happening beneath the surface of the skin, and allow us to tailor a treatment plan just for you!

One thing we’ll be on the lookout for will be the extent of your dry skin. When the weather is cold, your skin may have become dry, dull and uneven…but as the temperature starts rising, you may not need the same thick moisturizer you’ve been using all winter. Now is the great time to try a lighter moisturizer with alpha-hydroxy acid in it. It exfoliates the dead cells from your skin and also moisturizes. After a couple weeks you’ll feel your skin and love the softness! And it also plumps the skin by building collagen, which is depleting as we age.

A product with Vitamin C may also help your skin make the transition. My mom used to force me to drink all of my orange juice in the winter to protect from colds. I loved it so it wasn’t a problem. Now, as a skin care specialist, I recommend topical Vitamin C because it prevents cell damage. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that slows down the rate of free-radical damage (free radicals are unstable molecules that damage collagen). We carry a fantastic signature product called Vita-C Reversal Serum 30% that can help by working on the dryness, fine lines and wrinkles.

Vitamin A stimulates circulation to feed the skin better, decreases melanocyte production (which leads to brown spots) and improves skin cell turnover. You should continue with the Vitamin A because it will stop the damage and any dark spots in its tracks! In fact, we have our own line of vitamin A products for every skin type. Our Retinol ResQ comes in 3 strengths that contain green tea that helps with any irritation. It’s even great for Rosacea patients! We also offer our “wonder cream” (as I like to call it!) Enlighten Treatment that contains glycolic acid, vitamin E (another antioxidant) that we customize to your skin by adding Retin-A along with a skin lightener.

Finally, with the sun shining down upon us each day, wear your sunscreen! I never go out without it and I never get a sunburn. Yes, I’m the one who wears her sunscreen every day, wears a hat, and sits under an umbrella during vacation! Sunscreen will not only protect your skin from getting damaged but will help to prevent fine lines. I recommend a product with SPF 30 that contains titanium dioxide and zinc. The key is to reapply every 2 hours, and even more often, when swimming and sweating. I know that this sounds like a lot—but honestly—that’s how you know that you will be protected.

Fortunately, having glowing skin is much easier during the warmer months as your skin is subjected to milder conditions. We are always here to help you if you have any questions. If you want to get started, I’m offering a brand new renewal peel designed to revitalize you for Spring. You’ll get details by clicking on the link above now!
