We love Botox and we’re not alone: More than 10.9 million vials of Botox have been sold since the product was approved for cosmetic use in 2002. In fact, Dr. Wulc took part in the original clinical trials and spoke about the effects of Botox at an international meeting in the early 1990s. Since then W Cosmetic Surgery has been a leader in the use of injectables; Dr. Wulc pioneered a unique injection method called the “nanodroplet” technique, in which small doses (much smaller doses than those used by other providers) are placed in multiple locations to selectively elevate certain facial muscles, lessen wrinkles, and lift areas that are sagging.
Part of the appeal of Botox is the convenience. You can usually resume your day right after receiving an injection and will begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours, with effects lasting up to four months. Sounds great, but if you’re considering Botox there are some things you should know:
Botox at Any Age
20s: “Preventive” Botox is the latest development in the world of injectables, and younger patients are finding that Botox can help stop wrinkles before they become ingrained. Though a good moisturizer and regular sunblock application is enough for most people in their 20s, genetics and skin type can certainly play a large role. If you find yourself developing deep wrinkles- such as the classic “11” between your eyebrows- early Botox treatment can help prevent those lines from worsening.
30s: Your skin begins to lose volume and show the signs of aging in your 30s and 40s, and you will begin noticing fine lines. Botox can help erase the signs of aging, especially for those with sun damage or whose skin has otherwise been damaged.
40s: This is the time that you will start noticing volume loss and aging, when the lines and wrinkles are here to stay. You may require more frequent injections than you did in your 20s or 30s, and the deepest lines may not entirely disappear. Crow’s feet around the eyes can be a special area of concern for those in their 40s, and Botox can give your eyes a refreshed, alert look.
50s+: As the sagging and loosening of the skin associated with aging becomes worse, your doctor may combine Botox with other treatments to give you the results you desire. The innovate “nanodroplet” technique used by Dr. Wulc can be especially beneficial for those in their 50s, and can help elevate and lift different areas. Fillers can be used in conjunction with Botox to help create a fuller, more youthful appearance.
